Two statues have just been sent to the United States and installed in their niches for Christmas. The statue of Our Lady, Star of the New Evangelization, is based on Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mary is holding a scroll with the verse taken from St Luke’s gospel: “Mary arose and went with haste”. In her visit to her cousin Elizabeth, she is a model of the evangelizer bringing the good news of the Lord to her neighbours.
As for Saint Joseph, he is portrayed as the Protector of the Church, supporting a model boat which he has just made for the Child Jesus. In fact the boat is a symbol of the Church, marked with the cross and held by Jesus close to his heart.
Both statues are carved in limewood and painted. They are now placed in the chapel of a community in North Dakota.
